Emergency Care & Treatment
A dental accident can happen anytime, whether due to a sports injury, a fall, or biting into something hard. At Van Orman Dental, we provide emergency dental care to treat cracked, knocked-out, or broken teeth, gum injuries, and other urgent oral health issues. If you’ve experienced a dental emergency, seeking immediate treatment is crucial to prevent further complications.
Common Types of Dental Accidents
- Knocked-Out Tooth (Avulsed Tooth) – A tooth that has been completely dislodged from its socket due to trauma.
- Chipped or Broken Teeth – Caused by biting on something hard or experiencing a direct impact on the mouth.
- Cracked or Fractured Teeth – Resulting from trauma, grinding, or extreme pressure on the teeth.
- Dislodged (Partially Extruded) Tooth – A tooth that is still in place but pushed out of its normal position.
- Soft Tissue Injuries – Cuts, tears, or punctures in the lips, tongue, or gums due to an accident.
- Jaw Injuries – Severe impacts can lead to jaw fractures or dislocations, requiring immediate care.
What to Do in a Dental Emergency
If you or a loved one experience a dental accident, follow these steps immediately:
Knocked-Out Tooth :- Pick up the tooth by the crown (top), not the root. Rinse it gently with clean water if dirty—do not scrub! Try to place it back in the socket if possible or keep it in milk or saliva. Seek emergency dental care within 30–60 minutes for the best chance of saving the tooth.
Chipped, Broken, or Cracked Tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. If swelling occurs, use a cold compress on the face. If there is pain, take over-the-counter pain relievers as needed. Visit our clinic as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
Soft Tissue Injuries (Lips, Gums, Tongue):- Apply gentle pressure with gauze or a clean cloth to stop bleeding. Rinse with a mild saltwater solution to clean the area. If bleeding doesn’t stop after 15 minutes, seek immediate care.
Jaw Injuries:- Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid moving the jaw and seek immediate emergency dental or hospital care if a fracture is suspected.
