Frenectomy

Gentle & Effective Treatment for Tongue and Lip Ties

At Van Orman Dental, we provide frenectomy procedures to help children with tongue ties or lip ties that may interfere with speech, eating, or dental development. A frenectomy is a quick, minimally invasive procedure that removes the tight or restrictive tissue (frenum) under the tongue or upper lip to improve oral function and comfort.

What Is a Frenectomy?

A frenectomy is a procedure that releases the frenum, a small fold of tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth or the upper lip to the gums. When this tissue is too tight or thick, it can cause:

  • Tongue-tie (Ankyloglossia) – A restricted tongue that affects speech, breastfeeding, and swallowing.
  • Lip-tie – A tight upper lip that can cause feeding difficulties, speech issues, and gaps between front teeth.

Types of Frenectomy Procedures

At Van Orman Dental, we offer two types of frenectomy procedures:

Lingual Frenectomy (Tongue-Tie Release):- Releases the tight band of tissue under the tongue to improve speech, eating, and oral function.

Labial Frenectomy (Lip-Tie Release):- Removes or loosens the upper lip frenum to allow for better lip mobility and development.

What to Expect During a Frenectomy

Consultation & Diagnosis :- We perform a thorough exam to determine if a frenectomy is needed.

Quick & Gentle Procedure:- The procedure is quick (5-10 minutes) and performed using a laser or traditional method for minimal discomfort and bleeding.

Healing & Aftercare:- Most children recover within a few days, with little to no discomfort. We provide simple exercises to prevent reattachment and improve tongue or lip movement.

  • Prevention of future dental issues (gum recession, misalignment, etc.)
